Canadian provincial paintings
My fondest childhood memories include the yearly road trips around the Great Lakes west to my grandma’s house in Russel, Manitoba. I still remember being in awe over the windblown pines, rock cuts, lakes, rivers and waterfalls. In 2023, my daughter and I took a break from ongoing projects and were reminded of the great inspiration the Canadian landscape offers when we took a road trip (with painting box in hand) to Newfoundland and then another road trip out to Vancouver, north to the Yukon, and then across the prairies back home to Ontario. Every province is unique and beautiful and has such fabulous stories to share through art.

Usually I travel with bear guards who watch to see if it is safe for our group to go ashore. They were used to looking for polar bears in rocks and ice, and this day almost missed one hiding in the bushes. I had never seen one so far south and polar bears and shrubs seemed odd.

House at Hebron, Labrador
16″ x 12″ oil on panel painted en plein air | SOLD
The history of this location is heartbreaking. An Inuit settlement was forced to relocate leaving behind their homes, their lives. Being able to visit with my Inuit friends who’s ancestors lived here was very emotional.
